1. What is Oracle Database? Oracle Database is a relational database management system (RDBMS) developed by Oracle Corporation.

2. What is Oracle_HOME? ORACLE_HOME refers to a directory where the Oracle software is installed.

3. What is Oracle Base ? The Oracle base directory is the location where Oracle software and configuration files installed are stored.

4. What is Oracle inventory? The oraInventory stores information about all installed oracle software produced which was installed on the server.

5. What is orainst.loc? This file contains the location of the Oracle inventory directory.

6. What is the oratab File? The main purpose of this file is to automate setting environment variables starting and stopping Oracle databases (instances), if you want to automate during the OS Reboot process. The file is created by root.sh. TEST:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1:Y

7. What is the use of Root.sh and orainstRoot.sh?

* “orainstRoot.sh” appears when the oraInst.loc file does not exist. When we run it will change the permission of the inventory directory. It will also change the group of oraInventory directory.

* “Root.sh” will create a default directory /usr/local/bin if it does not exist. Set appropriate permission . it check and copy three files (dbhome, oraenv and coreenv) from ORACLE_HOME/bin to /usr/local/bin
